Should You Mist Your Houseplants?

A light spraying may just help your precious plants thrive!

If you're wondering whether your plants really need misting, you're in the right place!
Certain plants will greatly benefit from a good spray and here's why:

Hello, Humidity!

Some plants require humidity to stay healthy and continue producing new leaves and foliage - Without the right levels of moisture, many plants will dry out and leave you with crispy edges, or worse!
To maintain your green-fingered status, a misting routine will help keep your houseplants looking great.

It's unsurprising when many popular plants originate from tropical and subtropical regions. Taking a plant like a humidity-loving calathea and bringing it into a house with heating, air-conditioning and a generally drier atmosphere is asking for a challenge. However, it can be done! There are many ways to increase the humidity around your houseplants and one of the easiest ways to do this is by misting once or twice a week!

Every plant has different needs and not all of them appreciate a misting. Do your research to keep your plants in top shape!

Keep 'em Clean!

Humidity aside, there are some less-known benefits to misting your plants! Without the wind, rain and other natural movement, our houseplants are prone to a little dust build-up.

Whilst you can, and probably should, be giving your plants a wipe down every now and then, using a plant mister will actually help wash away dust and keep the leaves clean and shiny. Spraying down your plants can also help eliminate small pests!

When to Mist?

In an ideal world, it's best to mist your houseplants first thing in the morning. Plants don't like having 'wet feet' and, just like us, are fairly inactive in the evenings - They won't make use of any excess water overnight!

You can check the moisture level of your plants by placing a finger about an inch deep into the soil. If it's dry, then it's time to water and mist!

If wet, you can still mist your plants without overwatering if you're careful to avoid adding extra moisture to the soil.

To Mist or Not to Mist?

There's definitely a benefit to misting your plants! We recommend spraying your plants once or twice a week, depending on the moisture levels within your space.

Caring for your houseplants can be a very fulfilling task, and taking the time to mist them can be an enjoyable, relaxing experience. So, we say yes! Grab a mister and give it a go!
